Ninety miles north of Chicago, nestled on the shores of Lake Delavan in Delavan, Wisconsin, House In The Wood Camp provides a safe place for low income, at-risk Chicago youth. For many of the children, attending camp will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to escape the city streets and explore 23 acres of aquatic, wood and prairie habitats as well as many other curriculum-based (STEAM) experiences. Individual and group outdoor activities also help to grow self-confidence, develop teamwork and conflict resolution skills, enabling campers to learn how to make healthy life choices.
Tuition for more than 400 children age 7 to 17 to attend camp each summer is provided by the North Shore Board of Northwestern University Settlement Association, by way of multiple fundraising efforts. 100% of all proceeds are donated to House in the Wood. Our mission is to provide a positive environment where inner city kids can learn life skills to help them navigate everyday situations and challenges and to offer opportunity and support with the hope of disrupting extreme generational poverty. Our impact is powerful. Camp Changes lives.
